Windows Administrator Password Recovery

In Windows, the highest User is Administrator. We can’t configure some of the configurations in Windows except with the administrator user, even if we want to repair windows through the recovery console, we require Administrator.

What if we have set the administrator password and we forget it? There are several ways we can do to resolve the issue, software that can be used to reveal Windows password is Ophcrack. Ophcrack is a free Windows password cracker and licensed under GPL. Ophcrack is a powerful tool to reveal Windows password, but ophcrak is too large to download.

Another tool to reset Windows password is Active@ password changer, unlike Ophcrack, Active@ password changer doesn’t reveal the password, but it resets it. The size of Active@ Password Changer is small and also can create a bootable disk.

Here I will only explain how to reset password with Active@ password changer:

  • Download Active@ password changer in http://www.password-changer.com/
  • Install Active@ password changer.
  • If you will use a removable disk as a bootable disk then run the Bootable Floppy or USB Disk Creator, and if you use cdrom then run the Bootable DOS CD-ROM Creator.
  • Boot with a removable disk or cdrom on computer that the password will be reset.

After resetting the password, then for a security reason, the administrator password must be set again

Finding Linux Distribution that fits your needs

Tux linux maskotLinux or GNU/Linux is an operating system which is known as its reliability, security, and its portability. Linux, which was widely used for server, now it is widely used for Computer desktop.

The use of Linux is also easier because it is supported by graphical interface. Linux has a good memory management so that when it’s installed on a computer with low resources, it will be able to run properly, cost factor also brings people to switch to Linux.

Unlike Windows, Linux is available in many choices because Linux is Open Source or free (free speech not free beer) that allows people to develop, modify, distribute or even make their own version of Linux and distribute it without the need to buy a license anymore.

The large amount of choices in Linux makes it easy to search for distribution that fits our needs.

Some tips in selecting Linux distribution:

  1. Computer specifications: Select in accordance with your computer, whether the computer is old or new.
  2. The purpose of use: select according to the needs of its use, for example, when you plan to use your Linux for network purpose then choose a distribution that is intended for network.
  3. Desktop environment: there are many Desktop environments in Linux; such as XFCE, KDE and GNOME; they are very popular, they have different characteristics, depending on which Desktop Environment you feel comfortable.
  4. Installation Method: Select the installation method based on your ability, several Linux distributions use text mode for the installation, but most of them use graphical mode that more easily.
  5. Support: Community support is very important; if you have problem with your Linux you can get the support from this community.

Things mentioned above are some tips may be helpful in choosing your Linux distribution. There are several sites that may help you determine the choice, one of them is distrowatch.com, this site records a popularity of distribution based on the amount of its download, but I strongly encourage you to visit http://www.zegeniestudios.net/, this site is very interactive, you will be asked some questions and then as the result, they will suggest you several distributions that fit to your needs.

Boost Up Your Torrent

utorrentDownload via torrent or also called peer to peer is a popular download. Unlike the direct download, P2P (peer to peer) is file exchange, means the quality of the download isn’t only depend on the quality of internet connection.

To be able to download via torrent, we need a torrent client, there are many torrent clients, utorrent, bittorrent, Ktorrent for linux etc, utorrent is my favorite torrent client in windows.

Things that affect the quality of download, including:

  1. Seeds: the availability of files being downloaded, or the person who has downloaded 100%.
  2. Peer: a person who downloads the same file we download.
  3. Leeches: Leechers are people that the ratio of upload and download is unfair, much larger download than upload.
  4. Tracker: a server that tracks these torrent files.
  5. Nat/Firewall: behind the Nat/Firewall causes some services can not be reached by torrent.
Tips:
  • Look for torrent files with a good ratio, smaller number of leeches will be better. For example, 20 Seeds with 2 Leeches will be better than 100 Seeds with 500 Leeches.
  • Tracker list; if you are using a public trackers (mininova.org or thepiratebay.org) then add the tracker list as many as you can. You can search by typing in google “torrent tracker list”. Do not apply this in private torrent or you will be banned.
  • If your computer is behind firewall or Nat then all you need to do is Port forwarding.

How to do a port forwarding:

    1. Open cmd.
    2. type “ipconfig” and see the default gateway, it seems like 192.168.1.1 or something like that.
    3. open your browser and type the gateway ip, you will enter into the router settings and do port forwarding to the ip of computer you use. How to do port forwarding depending on the type of modem you use, please go to http://portforward.com/

Those are all I know to speed up torrent download, if you have more tips then add them, and be a good leecher by uploading as much as you download.

Installing OS through Usb

usb diskI’ve experienced a trouble while I need to install Windows on my pc and the cd drive won’t work. I thought is it possible to install an OS from removable disk? And then I started to find it and the answer is yes, it’s possible.

Here I would explain how to install OS through removable, Not only Windows but Linux also.

These are the tools you need if you going to install Windows Xp.

  1. Windows Xp cd or an image (.iso, .img, .nrg etc).
  2. usb_prep8.zip
  3. bootsect.zip and
  4. PeToUSB.zip

You can google for those files. :-) and follow the instructions as follows:
  • Plug your usb.
  • Insert the Windows Xp cd if you using cd, if using image, extract the files.
  • Extract usb_prep8.zip to any directory you want but don’t extract to the removable drive that will be used.
  • Extract PeToUSB.zip to folder usb_prep8.
  • Extract bootsect.zip.
  • Go to folder usb_prep8 and execute usb_prep8.cmd
  • Press any key and a new window will pop up, leave the default settings and click start, it will format the usb drive and once it done close the window.
  • Type 1 to change the xp directory.
  • Type 2 to change the temporary drive.
  • Type 3 to change the usb drive. Give your usb drive letter.
  • Open command prompt and cd (command to change active directory) to bootsect directory, then type bootsect.exe /nt52 X: (replace X with your usb drive letter e.g. /nt52 E: or /nt52 F:).
  • Type 4 to begin copying to the temporary drive. Follow the instructions, it will ask if you want to copy the files to the usb. Click yes and done.
  • Restart the computer, go to bios to make it boot from removable.

  • If you want to install Linux or want to use usb as live, then you need unetbootin. Go to http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ to get this tool, this tool available for Windows and Linux. You need a Linux image, you can download it manually or select the distribution you want to install from unetbootin. If you already have an image select Diskimage and the usb target, click ok and then wait to complete.
